An Expanded Cycle Improves Swimming Technique

Most coaches would agree that a complete program for improving technique includes sessions dedicated to both instruction and analysis. To best accomplish this, a combination of learning environments (classroom and pool) is essential. Swimmers benefit the most from a cyclical process that includes all the vital educational components for optimizing technique.
 
Unfortunately, swimming coaches typically face constraints that make it difficult to adequately emphasize technique. Staff and facility shortages limit the available time for the individual attention that is so important for improving technique. The purpose of this paper is to present information about how to expand the typical instructional process with minimal impact on logistics.
