SpeedWeek Swim Camps

STR SpeedWeek swim camps are unique. We are proud that STR is the only swim camp with:

  • An optimal model for swimming technique (MONA)
  • "Cue-focused" practice sessions
  • "Skill-isolation" drills
  • "Acceleration strategies" for the fastest progress
  • An Aquanex+Video analysis by the inventor of Aquanex
  • Instruction by a Ph.D. in biomechanics
  • Guaranteed identification of technique changes that will make you faster
  • A limit of 12 participants to ensure maximum individual attention
  • Guest experts in nutrition, sport psychology, strength training, and therapy

This five-day swim camp is directed at athletes who want to make a big improvement in a short amount of time. This swim camp will provide swimmers with a great deal of individual feedback, numerous opportunities to practice short swims without fatigue, and a force/video analysis for a complete evaluation of technique. A five-day swim camp has the benefit of "cue-focused" practice under a controlled environment with plenty of individual feedback. Our one-week camp has been documented to show an improvement that is comparable to turning "slower" swimmers into "faster" swimmers. The SpeedWeek swim camp format allows a through review of basic skills:

  • critical cues for head, torso, and leg orientation
  • four key checkpoints in the arm cycle
  • optimizing the nonbreathing and breathing head positions

The format also provides ample opportunity for focusing on more advanced skills:

  • cues for optimizing the hand path between the arm checkpoints
  • strategies for optimizing hand pitch throughout the stroke cycle
  • advanced skills for optimizing arm entry and exit, breathing, kicking, and synchronization

We offer instruction and analysis of all four strokes using the most advanced technology. The swim camp mornings will begin with a classroom session on optimal technique featuring MONA. An instructional pool session follows with many short swims at slow speed so that the swimmers can control their movements. Lunch time activities will feature guest experts on nutrition, physical therapy, psychology, and physiology. The afternoons offer the swimmers opportunities to maintain their focus on technique at faster speeds and with fatigue. However, maintaining control to improve technique will be the emphasis of our swim camp, not training distance. During the training, each swimmer will be tested with Aquanex+Video. A classroom feedback session of the synchronized underwater video and hand force data will conclude the daily schedule.

Our advanced technology was developed by the STR president (Dr. Havriluk) and has been thoroughly researched over the last 20 years. In addition, the instructional procedures have been supported with documented evidence presented at international conferences and published in swimming and scientific journals. Our advanced technology and learning strategies are used in our lesson program and clinics, in addition to our swim camps. We keep the number of participants small to insure individual attention, constant mental focus, and incomparable progress.

  • Advanced technology - Aquanex+Video analysis, instruction featuring MONA

  • First class facilities - on the Florida State University campus

  • Outstanding clinicians - Dr. Havriluk and guest experts in the sport sciences
