Rod is amazing!

Seriously, I think every swimmer probably has some room for improvement in some aspect of their technique. The question probably shouldn't be if a fast swimmer should change his or her technique but when should they do it. Traditionally, technique work is more of an early season activity so that swimmers can work out any kinks in their style before they increase their yardage but it's also important not to get sloppy and lose any technique gains later in the season.

Absolutely, technique is a life long work in progress. It is easy to develop bad habits or return to old ones with out constant perseverance. Also, the sport has changed so much over the last 20 years. The pioneers of different techniques make it so the rest of the athletes have to battle a constant learning curve and develop new ideas about the performance envelope. Active learning and practice are essential to personal progress.
