The following examples show typical technique limitations. In each example, the vertical gray lines on the force curves are synchronized with the video image.

The butterflyer wastes the beginning of each stroke by moving her hands sideways instead of backward. Note the minimal force for the first .2 sec (displayed in the Rep time box).

The backstroker below increases the force with her left hand very well, but then fails to maintain it as her hand moves straight back instead of closer to the body (into a stronger position).

This breaststroker has not bent her elbows enough and is unable to increase force during this part of the stroke.

The freestyler below has major gaps in propulsion. (The force curves for the opposite hand are in outline.) Note the long time of minimal force between curves.
